17: Remember what Amalek did to you on the way, when you went out of Egypt,
18: how he happened upon you on the way and cut off all the stragglers at your rear, when you were faint and weary, and he did not fear God.
19: [Therefore,] it will be, when the Lord your God grants you respite from all your enemies around [you] in the land which the Lord, your God, gives to you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall obliterate the remembrance of Amalek from beneath the heavens. You shall not forget!
He passionately explains part of his motivation for keeping Shabbat derives from a yearning for achdus — unity — with the rest of Am Yisrael.
He looks forward to shutting off all the screens — cell phone screens, TV screens, and movie screens — with all their distractions and voices of pilug, which incite Jews against one another.
Yet why all the passion to keep davka THIS Shabbat before Purim, the Shabbat on which we recall Amalek's unforgivable treatment of us, combined with Hashem's exhortation to stamp out any and all memory of Amalek?
We know the Amalek soul manifested itself in Nazism. Likewise, all the Gazans (and not just the armed "official" terrorists) who came to slaughter, terrorize, plunder, loot, and bask in the torment and slaughter of Jews — they seem to represent the current manifestation of Amalek.
In Guy's own words:
We all remember and and need to remember the seventh of the tenth month.
This coming Shabbat is Parshat Zachor — "Remember what Amalek did to you!"
On the Shabbat before Purim, I intend to keep Shabbat for the first time in my life...because on Shabbat, they murdered us because we are Jews.
So on this Shabbat, we will rise up and say: "We are proud to be Jews!"
Then all our enemies who consider us some kind of crumbling nation will know:
The Eternal Nation will not break so easily.
The Eternal Nation is not afraid of the long road ahead...
Let's bring 100,000 Jews to keep Shabbat for the first time — like I am.
Let's show our enemies what kind of Nation we are.
On Shabbat, they rose up to slaughter us.
On Shabbat, we will rise up and say:
"We are proud to be Jews! Remember what Amalek did to you!"
