I knew a woman who tried and worked really hard on Bain Adam La'chaveiro [treating others with sensitivity and respect], but she was not very Matzliach [successful].
She often did more damage than good, perhaps because of her difficult background.
When she became elderly, people said that she had Ruach HaKodesh, & she knew things about people without being told.
Hashem rewarded her lifetime of consistent frustrating Avoda in an area that she wasn’t good at.
And surely her Olam HaBah is much greater than all those who had an easy and respectable Bain Adam La'chaveiro.
She wanted to be sensitive to others and worked hard at it her whole life.
Eventually, she apparently received ruach hakodesh, which is the height of sensitivity because, as noted above, she now knew things about people without being told.
So she could — finally — really understand people and know what they need.
This is the power of genuinely WANTING to be good.
A person who wants something will not just mouth the words, but actively strive for it, changing behaviors, trying out & discarding different behaviors until they get it right.
And because we want so desperately to be good, Hashem eventually gives us a boost in ways we never expected.
