I felt like we are truly an orphaned generation (even though we still have very big talmidei chachamim for guidance, like Rav Gershon Edelstein).
When my son drove through our area this morning around 6 AM, he said local buses were packed as everyone traveled toward the main bus stop to Bnei Brak, and the bus stop to Bnei Brak was already filled with people along the entire sidewalk, with buses waiting in a line to fill up and take people to the funeral.
Harav Yitzchak Zilberstein, shlita, the brother-in-law of Harav Chaim Kanievsky ztz”l, published an announcement commanding people not to crowd or press during the funeral, and to especially watch over children during the massive crowd expected to show up:

No tragedies occurred at Rav Ovadia Yosef's massive funeral. My husband was there and said frum men instinctively formed circles around children to protect them from any pressing of the crowd.
