Brick insists on looking at the tens of thousands of eligible secular Israelis who dodge the draft ("primarily in the Gush Dan region" — Ramat Gan, Holon, Herzliya, Tel Aviv, Bat Yam) each year.
They discuss how this year, the percentage of eligible potential recruits who refused to enlist reached around 50%.
On study found charedi draft-dodgers represent 13% while secular draft-dodgers represent 12% of all draft-dodgers.
In other words, it's nearly the same amount of draft-dodgers in both groups.
(And that 12% doesn't include those who engage in the more sophisticated form of draft-dodging described below.)
Yet we only hear about the 13% who dodged the draft.
Mostly, we hear complaints about that 13% from the families and populations of the 12% who dodge the draft.
The rest of the 50% comprises other groups, like the Arab-Israelis.
Yet which group is demonized and constantly publicized?
Furthermore, the charedi draft-dodgers do so out of a very real idealism, a way to keep Am Yisrael alive and blossoming in Eretz Yisrael via the incomparable merit of Torah learning and keeping themselves out of the clutches of the military Erev Rav.
So we have 50% of eligible recruits dodging the draft, yet the media hyper-focuses on the charedi 13% out of that 50%?
What about the other 37% of draft-dodgers?
Then Brick makes another point many don't know about, but I heard personally from my older son who served in that part of the army (against his will; he wanted combat) and who also now works in an area with many secular Leftists customers.
Secular Leftist families with connections, money, and brains dodge demanding military service in a more sophisticated way: by making sure their precious children serve in "soft" positions.
The academically intelligent ones go into intelligence while the others go into undemanding positions in the air force (which provides its soldiers with the best material conditions — great food, good living quarters, nice gym, air-conditioned rec rooms with plasma screens for movies and TV, etc.) — "and they do everything possible to avoid going into combat," says Brick.
Or as Yossian and Brick put it: "...something that those on the periphery lack the funds to do too."
In the hive mind of the Gush Dan elite, combat is for the "little" people.
Yossian and Brick also note that nowadays, 70% of combat soldiers come from "the periphery" — and they acknowledge this includes quite a lot of religious Jews.
So who is relying on whom to die for them?
Who is letting whom carry the burden while they sit back and enjoy life?
Please, please, please note the hypocrisy rampant among the media and the draft-dodging/combat-dodging parts of society.
It's sick and twisted.
When Hashem reveal Mashiach and usurp these fakers, while taking the reins to rebuild the Beit HaMikdash and gather in all of Am Yisrael, in addition to bringing the entire world to knowledge of God and peace?
B'ezrat Hashem, b'karov and b'rachamim.
